Endeavour to merge with Semafo in C$1bn mining deal

Canada’s Endeavour Mining has agreed to combine with Semafo in a C$1bn ($690m) deal to create the largest gold miner in West Africa, in the latest push to consolidate operations in the fragmented gold mining sector. Endeavour, whose largest shareholder is Egyptian telecoms billionaire Naguib Sawiris, said the deal will create one of the top 15 gold producers globally and the largest producer in Côte d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso.
